Eddie Alvarez has spoken following his TKO loss at the hands of Timofey Nastyukhin. The former UFC lightweight champion says he was too hesitant in his ONE Championship debut.

Alvarez was a strong favourite going into the fight with Nastyukhin at ONE: ‘A New Era’. He came into the Lightweight Grand Prix as the highest ranked fighter and was widely expected to win the tournament.

Instead the 35 year old found himself on the receiving end of a devastating TKO defeat. The finish came at the 4:05 mark and according to Alvarez the punches ‘split both eyelids in half’.

Alvarez says he was too hesitant and ‘simply waited too long for the correct timing and (an) opening that never came’. He is also at a loss to explain what happened and states ‘I am sincerely disappointed and confused in my inability to pull the trigger’.
