Rumors that the reason Ayaka Hamasaki was not on January’s Invicta FC card because she was defending her title at JEWELS’s December event have proved to be true. Hamasaki (8-0) will be defending her title for the third time against Emi Fujino (11-5). The fight will also be taking place in a cage, the first time in JEWELS history, and will be competed under JEWELS special rules, which usually means that strikes to the head while on the ground will be allowed. Both fighters have fought in a cage before, so that should not be an issue. Fujino is coming off a 44 second KO victory in Kickboxing on the 18th and Hamasaki is coming off of her submission victory at Invicta FC. This is a big fight for both fighters involved. The title is on the line. If Fujino wins, she becomes the champion and more doors will open up for her in Japan and abroad. If Hamasaki wins, she adds to her undefeated streak and gains experience fighting a physically stronger opponent, which she will need if she wants to continue fighting for Invicta FC. This fight will be interesting for sure. Hamasaki will carry the technical advantage but Fujino will carry the strength advantage. Many people thought Fujii would blast through Fujino when they fought but Fujino was able to use her strength and concentration on the basics to stifle many of Fujii’s grappling attempts. Both fighters have never been finished.
