Takanori Gomi is on a two fight win streak going into a potential fight with Diego Sanchez in Tokyo, Japan.
Diego Sanchez has a date in Tokyo, or so it seems.
The former lightweight title contender tweeted yesterday that Takanori Gomi and himself will do battle on March 2nd in what is perceived to be the date of the UFC’s return to Tokyo. The event will be “UFC on Fuel 8″ and is set to be held at Saitama Super Arena, an arena located about 30 minutes by train outside of Tokyo.
Might have a fight lined up for march 2nd… Just waiting on the man Joe Silva to see if Mr. Fireball kid takes it?#japan#yesyesyes
Gomi is coming off a brilliant win in the octagon, taking Mac Danzig the distance and pulling down the much needed win. A winner of two in a row, Gomi looked in the best shape of his career while going the distance without showing a hint of losing any composure. The Gomi/Danzig fight was deemed “Fight of the Night” in the UFC’s first foray into China.
The 34 year old Gomi is looking to make one last title run. A fight with Sanchez will require Gomi to be in the same condition he was in with his fight with Danzig, if not better. A win would propel the former PrideFC lightweight champion back into a position that would see him rise again as a contender in the division.
