Phuket Top Team’s Rodrigo “The Professor” Praxedes became the URCC Middleweight Champion in only his third professional fight.

URCC, likely the the promotion with the most talented stable of fighters in the OneFC Network, held their 10th anniversary show today and put it on in style.

In a fight that had an ending that we are unaccustomed to in mixed martial arts, Eric Kelly submitted Brad Terrey with a beautiful armbar in an overtime period of their championship fight.  Kelly, who is one of OneFC’s brightest talents, now sits atop the URCC Featherweight division.

In a stunning turn of events, Eduard Folayang, one of the top prospects in all of Asia, had his bout halted due to punishment sustained earlier in the first round.  Doctor’s stopped the fight in the opening frame, leaving Lowens Tynanes, a fighter with only two professional fights as the winner.  Folayang has fallen from grace recently and it comes as no surprise.  The Filipino puts on a show for his fans, engaging in slugfests in most fights.   And while this is exciting to watch for fans, it will make a very short career for a fighter.  Whether the beatings he has  taken in just 15 fights are to blame for his recent slowdown is questionable. The loss likely will put Folayang on the shelf for a while as he recovers from an unexpected, intense beating during this fight.

Rodrigo Praxedes, one of Phuket Top Team’s up and comers, claimed the URCC middleweight title.  In only his third professional fight, “The Professor” won a deserved decision over Froilan Sarenas, one of the promotions regulars.  In doing so, he brings the first major championship to Phuket Top Team.
