Ronda Rousey becoming the first UFC Women’s Champion

The UFC announced today that Ronda Rousey (6-0) will be facing off against Liz Carmouche (7-2) on February 23rd at the Honda Center. When it became obvious that “Cyborg” Santos was not going to be available for a fight with Ronda in the near future, many people wondered who the UFC would put her in against for her first fight. The answer is Liz Carmouche. Liz Carmouche has been on a roll since dropping two fights in Strikeforce, almost upsetting Coenen in one of those, picking up a TKO and Submission victory in her last two fights. Known for her vicious ground and pound, Carmouche and her fans have been very active on twitter campaigning for the fight. She was so serious that she has already started training. It has all paid off.

It is hard to describe Ronda Rousey’s rapid¬†ascension. The only fighter that comes close to her is Gina Carano, but Ronda has blown her out of the water. With her ability to market herself and get first round armbars, she has turned herself into a juggernaut. She will be remembered in WMMA history as the first woman signed to the UFC. Dana White stated that she has an 8-fight contract. Carmouche is a tough fight for anyone and this promises to be an exciting fight.

I hope everyone is excited.

This fight is retarded. Alexis Davis and Sara Mcmann are ranked higher than Liz.

“According to both Rousey and White, not only did “Cyborg” turn down the spot opposite Rousey in the UFC’s inaugural women’s title fight, top contenders Sara McMann and Miesha Tate rejected the bout as well.”
