When Jon Anik filled in for Mike Goldberg for one of the biggest shows of the year, fans took notice and began wondering.  The promotion operates beneath a dark shroud, thus an announcement as to the where abouts of Mike Goldberg was not given.

Fast forward to the middle of this week and rumors began to swirl regarding the absence of Goldberg.  The source is unknown, however, the rumors began to fly that Goldberg was in the midst of a dreadful drug addiction, thus suffering the affects of all that comes with that mess.  Without any hard facts, however, it remained as strictly rumor.

Earlier today, sources who claim to be very close to the veteran UFC commentator set the record straight.  Goldberg, who has an inherent asthma condition, was hit with an upper respiratory infection in the weeks leading up to the event.  Doctors paid special notice to the infection due to his asthma and prescribed what was said to be a more aggressive than normal approach to combatting the illness.

The result was a Mike Goldberg who ultimately needed time off to let his body recoup.  Goldberg went to twitter this morning and set things straight, to a point:

“I’m doing well,” he said. “Those rumors out there are not true. I’m dealing with a complicated health issue but feeling better and hoping to be back to 100 percent by Jan. 26 (UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago). See you soon.”

Thus ends the rumor of the Mike Goldberg drug addiction.
