Eddie Alvarez will still be granted his title shot only his time will come at a later date than he anticipated.
With the on going battle for the hottest free agent in MMA having no end in sight, Eddie Alvarez appears to be heading to a litigator or a courthouse before heading back to a cage to fight.
Meanwhile, the UFC announced today that Strikeforce lightweight champion and import Gilbert Milendez will look to unify the belt with Benson Henderson, the current UFC lightweight champion. MMAWeekly.com reported that while no bout agreements are in place, the bout is likely to go down at UFC on Fox 7 in San Jose, California. Henderson will look to make it three straight title defenses, something that has been hard to do for any UFC champion.
Meanwhile, Melendez looks to solidify himself as the best fighter in what could easily be the most stacked division in the sport. Nate Diaz, Melendez’s partner, was unsuccessful in his title shot with Henderson, thus opening the door for Melendez to go for a little retribution for team Cesar Gracie.
Henderson won the title last March in Tokyo, Japan with a win over Frankie Edgar. Henderson is the former WEC lightweight champion, as well.
