The UFC has given Japan its own nomenclature, officially naming the event “UFC Japan 2013″. The move by the company ensures future events on the island nation and ensures Japanese fighters the opportunity to compete in the worlds largest promotion.
The event, which takes place March 3rd, will feature former PrideFC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva against former United States Marine, Brian Stann.
Silva made his name in Japan with Pride, capturing their middleweight title and going on one of the most violent, and impressive win streaks we have seen to date.
The card also features a number of Japanese talents. Takanori Gomi, Riki Fukuda, and Takeya Mizugaki are among the homegrown stars that will be featured on the fight card.
Finally, Sengoku import, Mizuto Hirota, will make his octagon debut with Rani Yahya, another fighter who has spent time in Japan. Yahya was a KID Yamamoto victim during his day’s at the top of the lightweight division. Before suffering a nearly career ending injury at the hands of Shinya Aoki at Dynamite 2009, Hirota was a top talent in Japan.
