Jose Aldo is ready to make the move, this according to his coach Andre Pederneiras.
Aldo took the former 155 pound champion Frankie Edgar thru five rounds of action last weekend, retaining his featherweight. Before this fight, Pederneiras was reluctant to let his champion make the move to the lightweight division. Upon the successful title defense with Edgar, however, it seems the time has come.
“If they offer him [the chance to move to 155 pounds] I have no problem approving of that fight right now.” said Nova Uniao front man Andre Pederneiras to Sherdog.com.
With one of the most stacked divisions in the sport, the lightweight division will see Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez fight to unify the titles at the next UFC on Fox. Upon the completion of that fight, one could expect Jose Aldo to move up and compete for another title belt. The last time a fight like this occurred was GSP vs Penn which saw St. Pierre dominate his foe enroute to a stoppage.
Aldo has always left it up to his coach, who has finally given the green light. Will 2013 be the year of the super fight?
