Just five years ago, Antonio Silva was wrapped in an America Top Team flag, walking down the ramp in Tokyo, Japan to fight for what was supposed to be the next coming of PrideFC. The pay was good, the fans loved the giant Brazilian, and he was dominating his fights. He was already the EliteXC heavyweight champion and he was looking to build on his success in America and raise his stock internationally.
Five years later, Silva is now fighting for the most prestigious title in the world of combat sports. And while pundits will say this fight his already lost for Silva, his ability to progress his game is very apparent. Silva has dominated some of the biggest names in combat sports: Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski, and now Alistair Overeem. And because of that hard work, the prestige is now coming Silva’s way.
Silva was the recipient of a brand new Gran Turismo Maserati this week as a gift for his win over Alistair Overeem. One of Silva’s sponsors gifted the $125,000 sports car to the Brazilian following his big win at UFC 155. Enjoying it, however, will have to be put on hold as Silva begins to train for his title bout with Cain Velasquez.
Yet another tale of hard work paying off…
